The Société d'histoire du droit et des institutions des pays de l'ouest de la France was founded by the Law Faculties of the universities of Poitiers, Rennes, and Caen, in 1951, to study the legal, administrative, economic, and social histories of Normandy, Brittany, and adjacent provinces. Comptes rendu of the society's biennial proceedings were published in the Revue historique de droit français et étranger. The society presently goes under the name of the "Société Jean-Yver - Société d'histoire du droit et des institutions des pays de l'ouest de la France" and is based at Caen University. This compte rendu reports, amongst others, papers given at Tours in 1972 by John le Patourel on Norman rulers' crossings of the Channel, L. Musset on exile in the 11^th century, Roger Jouet on the Black Death in Basse Normandie, and Jean Yver on the redaction of coutumes, 1496-1514. Edition(s): Series, 1951 -.
