Remarks:

Berriat-Saint-Prix was born in Grenoble of a legal dynasty, and his two sons also became jurists. He graduated baccalaureate in law in 1787 at the university of Orange. He also studied natural sciences. Berriat-Saint-Prix occupied several posts in the Revolutionary years and then served as professor of law at Grenoble 1805-1819, before moving to a chair of civil procedure at Paris University. He adhered closely to Napoleon's cause. He became a member of the Société des antiquaires de France in 1820 and was elected to the Académie des sciences morales et politiques in 1840. His legal works included observations on and a history of Roman law (1807, 1821) and courses in criminal procedure (1813) and criminal law (1817).
