Author(s): Robert Carabie (1914-1988)
Title: La Propriéte Foncière dans le Très Ancien Droit Normand (Xie-XIIIe siècles). Tome i: La Proprièté Domaniale
Remarks:
Carabie spent the whole of his academic career at Caen, where, after war service, he resumed his doctoral studies. The present work, prepared under the supervision of Jean Yver, resulted. The study provides a clear understanding of the system of tenure in the middle ages. It was published as the fifth (and last) volume of the second series -- études of the Bibliothèque d'Histoire du Droit Normand, an enterprise of the first half of the 20th century of the law department of the University of Caen. After further military service in 1945 Carabie returned to the University, teaching both French and Roman law. Typewritten notes on his course on the Coutume de Normandie still circulate amongst the cognoscenti. Edition(s): 1943. No volumes after this "tome i" were published.
