Dupont's work is equally valuable in its use of documentary evidence (some now lost or destroyed) as in its subject, treating not only the histories of the Channel Islands and their Norman mainland but also relations between them. Dupont was a conseiller of the court of appeal of Caen. He published quite widely including writing 'Les droits de mer en Basse-Normandie au Moyen-âge', Mémoires de la Société des Antiquaires de Normandie, xxvii (1876), 434-481, and editing Le registre de l'officialité de l'abbaye de Cerisy (Caen, 1880).
