Remarks:

Havet was a leading French medievalist. His Cours Royales (first published in the Bibliothèque de l'École des chartes, vols 38-39, 1877-78, which explains the bizarre numbering of the pages of some printings) followed the publication of his thesis for the École as Série chronologique des gardiens et seigneurs des Îles normandes (1198-1461) in 1876. His Oeuvres, in two volumes, and including the Série chronologique, were published posthumously in 1896. Havet's Cours Royales describes not only the courts of Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney, and Sark in his own day but also presents the outcome of historical research in the British Public Record Office and elsewhere, supplying valuable transcriptions over fifty-six pages.
