Remarks:
Hippolyte Pissard, of distinguished legal-political ancestry, obtained his doctorate in law at the University of Paris 1907-1910. He taught at Algiers University 1912-1914, in which latter year he moved to the University of Grenoble. At the coming of the Great War, Pissard joined the 30th Battalion of the Chasseurs Alpins, and was mortally wounded at Curlu, Somme, 20 July 1916. The publication forms volume 1 of the second series -- études of the Bibliothèque d'Histoire du Droit Normand, an enterprise of the first half of the 20th century of the law department of the University of Caen.
